VIP: A Proven Approach to Learning
VIP has quickly become my favourite thing about uni so far. It is a project that it is grounded in the real world with incredible industry exposure and gives students a unique learning opportunity . . . It feels more like an exciting start-up company rather than a university project.
VIP Consortium has made VIP scalable, has pooled resources, success stories and lessons learnt from across the globe, and has given this revolutionary idea a platform with clout . . . That is what makes a VIP program different, the fact that it has the momentum of the VIP Consortium.
I had graduate students who were helpful and encouraging as mentors, and you just don’t get that involvement in a regular class. VIP cultivates that environment.
When I interviewed students for post-graduation employment, I would ask them about the most important thing they learned in college. Students who participated in VIP would always have a quick answer about the VIP project they worked on. VIP carries forward in giving students a leg up in their career after their time at university . . . I think this program has the potential to last for 100 years or more.
Being an engineer and being a leader of engineers are very different experiences...my experience on the VIP EcoCar 3 team gave me that larger understanding.
Students in VIP get a broad exposure to current industry trends and requirements, how to be productive in global, cross-functional teams and how to share and grow ideas.
