Goals
To develop human guided robotic technologies that enhance/facilitate the work at construction sites. The goal is to design semi-autonomous robots that construction workers could control to execute the initial construction phases of a building, such as digging (earth-forming) and foundation construction. By exploring and integrating technologies such as embedded computing for automation, wireless mesh networks, computer vision, computer intelligence, and expert systems, we will create robotic constructions machines that can perform the initial earth clearing and foundation laying processes. The idea is to enable a safer and more efficient worksite through robotic automation.
Issues
Autonomous navigation, control, and manipulation for robots; Coordinated control of interacting robots; Computer vision for reconstruction of worksite geometry; Computer vision for obstacle detection, object classification, and planning; Machine learning for process control; Data analytics to process activities.
