Dr. Klenke received his BSEE from the Virginia Military Institute in 1982 and served four years in the United States Navy as a Civil Engineer Corps officer. Dr. Klenke received his MSEE in 1989 and his Ph.D. (Electrical Engineering) in 1993 from the University of Virginia.
Dr. Klenke is a Professor and Acting Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Virginia Commonwealth University. He has been at VCU for 25 years and has extensive teaching and research experience in system-level modeling and hardware/software codesign for complex, embedded digital systems. His main research thrust has been concentrated in the area of digital flight control systems and payload data systems for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. Dr. Klenke started the VIP program at VCU in 2014 as the Director of VIP@VCU and served in that position until 2022. His VIP team in Collaborative Unmanned Aerial Vehicles has been in operation since 2014.
